四个多小时的史诗巨片。冗长？是的。沉闷？除了开头有点闷以外，后面却是越来越有趣。主要是因为演员们的表现很精彩，众生世相，呼之欲出。(2011年五月更新：买到了八小时版！)

三位英国最伟大的舞台剧演员，三位爵士出演配角。伯顿二十冒头在英国的时候曾经和劳伦斯奥利弗和约翰吉尔古德这两位前辈发生过不可言说的关系，拍这部剧之前的宴会上他还借酒醉骂吉尔古德是同性恋，老头子们当年的爱恨情仇啊，英国真是腐国。
