This production of Raymonda is part of Arthaus Musiks Elegance Series, which is a collection of ballet performances from the worlds best dance houses featuring the greatest choreographers and celebrating the legacy of legendary choreographer Marius Petipa. The original choreography for this ballet was constructed by Petipa in 1898. This revival and staging has been done by Sergej Vikharev, and transports the viewer back in time to the original performances. Recorded live in 2011 at La Scala, this production is the most faithful to the original that has since been performed. The story is based on a medieval legend, complete with knights and ladies, cathedrals and castles. This work is largely regarded as the last great work from the glory days of the Imperial Ballet.
