在1914年，经过半个世纪的和平后，他们哪知道何为战争，战争成了英雄与浪漫传说，人们只能透过学校课本与博物馆里的书作看到战争。骑兵穿着漂亮的制服冲锋陷阵，没有半个死者的光鲜行军，像男子汉般的疯狂冒险，一段美好的体验。难怪在送他们去屠宰场的火车上，他们竟然还又叫又唱的。
